The truth about poverty: 10 myths busted

I’m not a fan of lists, but this one from Mother Jones cuts through the hyperbole and myth about poverty.

  1. \”10. Handouts are bankrupting us. In 2012, total welfare funding was 0.47 percent of the federal budget.\”It's not that \”welfare\” is busting the budget. It's that is \”demoralizing\”. In my work with and contributions to HOMEFRONT NJ, I learned that the politicians and bureaucrats want to \”keep their Clients\” on the rolls. Like the \”minimum wage\”, Which is a payoff to the bureaucrats and unions, it ensures that folks — real people — remain poor.Argh!Private charity is always preferable to Gooferment welfare.Gooferments want \”justification\”!

  2. Not being paid a living wage is DEMORALIZING, be burdened with student debt is DEMORALIZING, being abused, exploited and cheated by giant corporations like Walmart is DEMORALIZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Private charity is BS crap phony baloney garbage. Private charity is an excuse to do nothing about the poor, to ignore the poor and to hate the poor. Private charity is hit or miss and can only help a small fraction of a fraction of an infinitesimal group of people. The libertarian mob believe in doing nothing, oh yeah, just let charity take up the slack for poverty wages, no benefits and health problems. Talk about GOOOFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Oh whoopee doo, I'm a libertarian and I hate government, I hate government, I hate government which makes me wonderful and smart and libertarian, whoopee, pee pee. I hate government so much I want to repeal the 17th amendment, take power away from the people and give it back to the gooooooooooooooooferment. Whoopee, pee, I'm part of the libertarian cult. Goooooooooferment is evil, we don't need no damn government, whoops, meant to say gooooooooooooooooooferment. Gee, aren't I clever with that gooooooooooferment remark. I'm so original. Gooferment, gooferment. gooferment, I'm so damn clever!!!!!!!

  5. Reading or listening to the bumper sticker bilge of libertarian robots is demoralizing. Reading the over used word \”gooferment\” is demoralizing. It's moronic beyond human belief that a functioning human being would use that idiotic term over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, ad nauseam….but I repeat myself.
