Military pisses on itself

You’d think the apparent desecration of Taliban corpses by United States Marines in Afghanistan would be indefensible, that the notion that someone would piss on a dead body would be so foreign to all of our consciences that this would not be an issue.

You would be wrong. This is a post to Facebook that I just came across:

am so sick of this shit with the Marines who urinated on their enemy. Hey stupid go visit a VA hospital sometime and look at the condition of some of our retuning soldiers. Did it ever occur to you that we might not be such a target if other people feared us? GO USA!!!!!!

To sum things up: Pissing on a corpse shows how powerful we are and apparently has military utility. Bizarre.

I’ll leave it to Cara Palmer, on Neon Tommy, — who calls the footage “utterly deplorable” — to explain things to my Facebook friend:

The thoughtless action and comments of the Marines depicted in the video is not only disrespectful, but it is also inhumane. The devaluation of another human being, dead or alive, in such a manner, even and especially in wartime, reflects badly on the character of those committing the act. Certain standards of behavior must be met, standards these particular Marines were far from meeting.

  1. War or military force should only be used as an absolute last resort, only when our immediate national interests are at stake. Military force should not be used willy nilly whenever some war mongering president feels in the mood to flex our military muscles and demonstrate our super power status to the rest of the world. When the heck did we become a militaristic country, glorifying military power, brute force and war? When did we become Prussians? We glorify and deify the troops going into a war but once the war is over or the troops come home, the physically and psychologically damaged troops are forgotten and neglected. We are definitely the preeminent bombing country. We drop bombs on other countries as readily and easily as we take a breath of air.Once you unleash the dogs of war, all these horrors will follow as surely as day follows night. We are an occupying force in Afghanistan; when you place young men in an almost impossible situation, they will often react with brutality, callousness and sadism. It's inevitable, that's why war should be an absolute last resort.

  2. Maybe if we go back to the Congress declaring wars. And, maybe if we insist on an income tax surcharge to pay for it.And, put some politicians, or their children, in the front lines. And, if we pull our troops OUT of the 100+ countries where we have them. And, if we stop what Ron Paul calls \”military adventurism\”.Then, maybe our girls and boys won't be in harm's way or feel that they need to do this stuff.imho, little L libertarian
