Read their lips, no new taxes — on the rich; the rest of you, you’re on your own

The Republican plan for addressing the long-term deficit can be summed up this way: Leave the rich alone and pass along the costs to the rest of us.

As Ryan Grimm of the Huffington Post reports:

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said on Sunday that House Republicans would oppose President Barack Obama’s payroll tax cuts for both employers and employees, arguing that the policy had already failed to provide a sufficient boost to the economy. “It hasn’t worked,” Ryan said, suggesting the current temporary tax cut should be allowed to expire, which will amount to a 50 percent tax hike on workers making less than $106,000 per year.

He also said he opposes the president’s proposal to require millionaires to pay the same tax rate as the middle class, known as the Buffett plan. “Class warfare might make for good politics, but it makes for rotten economics,” Ryan said.

Again, to sum things up: Raise taxes on the middle class and oppose any hike in taxes for the rich. And gut so-called entitlement programs.

  1. I believe what they are saying is: \”No new taxes\”. I'd prefer them to say: \”No taxes\”, but that will never happen as long as they have the guns. Taxes are an immoral theft. But over and above that, raising taxes in a down economy is economic suicide. They will have to cut spending. Before they \”drive\” the economy into total collapse. Everyone is looking at the uncertainty ahead — how much will an employee cost me? — what are the economic prospects ahead? — what are these idiots in DC doing? — and waiting for the storm to pass. I personally like Herman Cain's 9-9-9 plan. At least it's easy to understand. I doubt we can ever pass it. Since the politicians and bureaucrats will be fighting for pennies. That's not a bad thing. Just never going to happen.Everyone is ALWAYS on their own. We need more \”rowers\” and fewer \”free riders\”.Argh!

  2. Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill ,kill the free riders, the moochers, the parasites. I'm a PRODUCER, why should I pay taxes. Oh, by the way, the killing should be privatized and jobbed out to for-profit companies. It's a win win for everybody. Any moochers in my family will be exempt, of course.

  3. I guess everyone who's on the dole is as pure as the driven snow. And, entitled to free lunch.Plus who said anything about \”killing\” anyone. If you're on the dole, we expect you to show up and do something for the body politic. Private charity is far more moral, effective, and efficient. We should seek to really help people; not by imprisoning them with the shackles of the dole.I'd like to see Social Security reformed. Instead of transferring the life's wealth from poor minority men to rich white women, let's privatize it like they did in Chile. Then, the working poor can leave something for their posterity. Now, it's politicians and bureaucrats that are the big winners. Argh!
