Rational ruling on immigration

A federal judge has temporarily stopped the clock on Arizona’s punitive immigration law, citing several sections that would impose unnecessary and unconstitutional burdens on both legal immigrants and citizens. The ruling does not end things and only moves the process a step closer to the Supreme Court.

That ultimate fate, unfortunately, still gives the xenophobes home-court advantage, given the conservative majority on the court. That makes it imperative that Congress and the president get serious about immigration reform and not wait.

  1. You are obviously an idiot. This is not about Fearing Mexican Nationals. This is about National Security. I understand you on the left don't really give a flip about National Security and as long as you are affected by it, who gives a flip. You on the left remind me of the Movie Independance Day, when the idiots climbed up atop the building to wowwy zowwy, zippy zappy the \”ALIENS\” and try to make nice with them. Right before they were vaporized. There is nothing racist in the Arizona Bill. Sooner or later WE,THE PEOPLE WILL TAKE CARE OF A MESS THE GOVERNMENT REFUSES TO DEAL WITH.First though November 2 and the draining of the swamp in D.C.

  2. The ones who don't give a flip about national security are the millionaires, billionaires, the corporate shills at The US Chamber of Commerce and many of the right wing think tanks. They love that steady flow of cheap quasi-slave labor because it increases profits. The corporate right wingers love illegal immigrants while the clueless middle class and poor right wingers love to demonize illegals and blame them for all our ills. Xenophobia is so much fun, especially for right wingers. For example, Perdue Farms is one of the largest employers of illegal immigrants in the US. We have a problem with illegal employers. They want a steady and uninterrupted flow of illegal immigrants so they can further lower wages and eliminate any kind of benefits. In 1986, \”Saint\” Reagan granted what amounted to amnesty for over 3 million illegal immigrants and he was no liberal.Super conservative GOPer Alan Simpson comments on Reagan.Alan Simpson (super conservative Republican), however, sees a different person in the president he called a \”dear friend.\”Reagan \”knew that it was not right for people to be abused,\” Simpson says. \”Anybody who's here illegally is going to be abused in some way, either financially [or] physically. They have no rights.\” Peter Robinson, a former Reagan speechwriter, agrees. \”It was in Ronald Reagan's bones — it was part of his understanding of America — that the country was fundamentally open to those who wanted to join us here.\” Reagan said as much himself in a televised debate with Democratic presidential nominee Walter Mondale in 1984. \”I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally,\” he said.
