Quote of the day: Debate edition

I mentioned Tom Shales’ column in an earlier post, but I wanted to highlight this quotation, which sums up my criticism of the current state of political coverage:

But candor is dangerous in a national campaign, what with network newsniks waiting for mistakes or foul-ups like dogs panting for treats after performing a trick. The networks’ trick is covering an election with as little emphasis on issues as possible, then blaming everyone else for failing to focus on “the issues.”

  1. Well, we can start that debate here today with a very simple question. Is it ever moral for the majority to impose its will on the minority by force? That question is the crux of the issue of what is wrong with government (gooferment) today. Does any candidate advance the idea that, as long as you don\’t hurt anyone, you should be free to make choices? Good choices, bad choice, but they are your choices. I see these politicians today as, at best, fools who believe they are \”doing good as they see it\” or, at worst, con men advancing their own agendas at the expense of the people. It seems real simple to me. Free markets or politics as usual. Remember democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what\’s for dinner. A republic is well-armed sheep disputing that decision.
