The state has put Route 1 widening back on the table — or, rather, it has put a study on the table that will determine if it wants to conduct in-depth design work and research on Route 1 that will determine if the project is worth pursuing.
Got that?

Widening? Maybe. But improving intersections is sorely needed.I\’d start with an overpass at Finnegan\’s Lane. There are times when that light backs up to Deans Land coming from the south, to Adams Lane coming from the north, and almost to Route 27 coming from the west. There was just enough access to Route 1 from northwestern South Brunswick to handle South Brunswick traffic (at least once the 27-1 connectors were improved), but the later development of southern Franklin Township seems not to have been part of South Brunswick\’s plan. Now we\’re all (including folks from south of South Brunswick) stuck with an extra 10 minute delay and lots of wasted gas and pollution on many commutes.
