Runner’s diary Wedensday

I’m hoping the weather breaks before the end of the week so I can get outside. I hate running in the damp, rainy fall — wait, it’s still summer.

Anyway, five miles on the treadmill (45:40) listening to Miles Davis’ A Tribute to Jack Johnson.

Runner’s diary, Tuesday

Two runs this week on very tight legs. I seem to be having trouble getting loose.

Ran three today, progressively increasing my pace, finishing at about 26:30 (music: The Hold Steady, Boys and Girls in America).

Yestday, four miles in 34:59, varying my pace, speeding up and slowing down every few minutes (music: a mix).

I ran three times while on vacation — not nearly enough — for a total of 12 miles.

As of now, I am significantly behind where I think I need to be in my training for LBI — I need to do an eight- or nine-mile run this week and a 10 next week, shooting for at least one 15-miler by the third week in September.

Runner’s diary, Friday

I’ve been otherwise occupied today trying to keep my head above water before leaving the office on vacation for the week, so the posts are a bit late.

In any case, today’s run — inside on the treadmill — was hardcore. I pushed four miles in 34:36, pushing my pace faster and faster until I hit the three-mile mark and began the slowdown.

Music: A mix.

Runner’s diary, Thursday

My legs are now sore and I’m not sure that my heart rate has returned to normal, but I’m still riding that rush that comes from pushing the body to its maximum. It has been a long time since I ran seven miles, but I need to start lengthening my long runs so seven it was today (in an absolutely silly 79 minutes).

I felt good for the first four, winded for the fifth, began struggling for the sixth and labored badly for the final mile.

But I finished, making it 17 miles this week across three runs (I did 17 last week in four) with at least one more run on tap.

I’d like to work up to a 10-mile run by the end of the month and then a 15-mile trek toward the end of September. The LBI race is Sunday, Oct. 8.
