Runner’s diary, Thursday

My game plan when I hit the treadmill this morning was to get in about five miles with some interval training included. But my legs felt good, so five became six and six became seven. I think I could have gone farther, but the treadmill at the gym maxes out at 60 minutes. I pushed the seven in 59:49 — an 8:33 pace.

My goal was to get in 225 miles by the end of the first quarter and I am close. As of today, I’ve logged 204 miles with tomorrow and next week still to come. The issue is that I’m limited next week because of planned gum surgery on Thursday. That means that, to get to 225 by next Friday, I need to log 21 more miles in four running days.

I’m hoping to get outside in April.

Runner’s diary, Monday

Treadmill run again, though the weather appears to be turning. I’m hoping to get outside by April.

Ran four miles today in 34:33 on extremely sore legs from last week’s heavy weight work. Pace was 8:38. No iPod — forgot to charge it.

Runner’s diary, Friday

Man, am I sore. I ran three fast-paced miles this morning on the treadmill — the weather is starting to get warm enough to head outside, but it’s not quite there yet — and followed it by some pretty strenuous weight work for the legs (walking lunges, dead lifts, etc.). I will be paying for it tomorrow, but hope to see the positive benefits in my times as I go forward.

Time today, by the way, was 25:09 (8:23) with splits of 9:05, 8:16 and 7:48.

No music today because the iPod ran out of juice. I was forced to listen to the best of the ’80s on the gym’s sound system while watching MSNBC with the sound off (sometimes this is the best way to watch it).
