Hey, Rudy: Don’t let the doorhit you on the way out

This post from Josh Marshall gets at something I’ve always believed about Rudy Giuliani, that he rarely has been willing to engage in a fight that he didn’t think he could win. Or, more to the point, Giuliani is the classic bully, taking on those weaker than him but rarely engaging in those who are his equals or, god forbid, stronger than him.

So, now we won’t have Rudy and hist autocrtic, bullying ways, to kick around any longer. And the republic can breath a sigh of relief.

Joe loves Rudy

I meant to post this video yesterday — just happened to catch it while running on the treadmill — but had some early computer problems and then forgot.

It’s an interview with Rudy Giuliani by Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski that essentially is a love letter to the former New York mayor. Pay particular attention to the rapt attention Brzezinski pays to Lord Mayor of 9/11 and the way Scarborough puts his adulatory statements into the form of a question. Yuck.

Quote of the day: On Giuliani

Today’s quotation — about presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani — comes courtesy of Josh Marshall at Talking Points Memo:

I will say this: I am heartened by the fact that Rudy’s campaign not only seems to be definitively swirling around the bowl but that he also seems committed to shuffling off this electoral coil with no dignity intact. I think we may be tumbling toward the aesthetic or comedic version of a parallax view in which the reality and parody versions of Rudy’s campaign are meeting their long-anticipated convergence.

Dog pile on the rabbit

Columnists and bloggers around the country are asking the same thing: Why is it that Rudy Giuliani’s factually deficient recounting of his own brush with the healthcare system has not called his character into question?

More on Rotten Rudy

Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo reminds us that former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani was prepared to shred the city’s charter in the wake of 9/11 — and that there’s no reason to believe he won’t attempt to do the same to what’s left of the U.S. Constitution.

Mayors don’t have a lot of real power. Not over life and limb and upholding or violating constitutions. But it gives you a sense of the guy’s judgment, and his own sense of indispensability versus following rules the country has followed since its founding. With all that’s happened over the last seven years, does anyone trust this guy with the constitution?
