Off the deep end with O’Reilly

I make it a point to only watch Bill O’Reilly in the smallest doses and never more than a couple of times a week. My head hurts if I tune in more than that.

Monday was one of those nights, though. I was flipping channels, not in the mood for Colbert, not in the mood for “Scrubs,” not in the mood to read The Nation or Taylor Branch’s “At Canaan’s Edge.” And there was O’Reilly, running a couple of (I guess) regulars through what he calls a “culture quiz.” They managed to get a whole lot of easy answers wrong and, in the process, prove that Mr. O’Reilly has truly, madly, deeply lost his mind.

Sticks, stones and Bill O’Reilly

Here’s a study that essentially proves what we’d already suspected — that conservative talk show host Bill O’Reilly is a fear-monger and a bully, forcing the world to fit into a neat “good v. evil”/”us v. them” paradigm and using this paradigm to generate ratings and create conservative propaganda.

(That his show has grown increasingly weird as the conservative moment wanes should be a topic for another study, but alas….)

We are looking to raise seed money for an anthology of writing on Alzheimer’s and dementia. The anthology will be the first project from a new small press. All proceeds will go to research and care groups. Contributors who donate $20 or more will get copies of the anthology and a mention on the acknowledgements page. Writers, we are looking for poems, fiction, and essays on dementia and Alzheimer’s. They can be from any perspective — care-givers, family, the person with dementia.
