Today in History: Satchel Page, Guadalcanal or The Beatles? Which was most significant? You know where I stand

History.com leads with Satchel Paige’s nomination to the Hall of Fame — making him the first Negro League vet to get in.

The NY TImes leads with another World War II battle. It also notes in its timeline that John Quincy Adams was named president by the House of Representatives after no candidate managed to get an electoral majority (1825) and Jefferson Davis was elected president of the Confederacy on this date in 1861.

None of these important events, however, had the impact of what happened in 1964 — something that the major news and history sites opted to underplay.

Yes, my friends, an English band with funny haircuts made an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show and changed not only musical history but cultural history, as well.
