State GOP = Capone’s vault? Maybe, if Geraldo becomes its standard bearer

New Jersey Republicans own the governor’s seat and, if polls hold, appear likely to keep it.

They have some high-profile and incredibly competent legislators, numerous suburban mayors and county officials and others who would appear qualified to run for U.S. Senate.

And yet, according to today’s Star-Ledger, the party has reached out to none other than Geraldo Rivera.

At a time when the party would appear in its best position in years, thanks to Chris Christie, what does it say about the man who brought us the very empty Capone’s vault?
