Christie’s outsourcing silliness

This suggestion may prove to be politically popular, but it privatizing state functions is as foolish an idea as Jon Corzine’s proposal to sell the N.J. Turnpike.

Let’s be clear, privatization is only the public-worker version of outsourcing, which offers some nominal upfront savings in the private sector but ultimately costs more in morale and connection to the work.

  1. Christie will or has selected a Washington lobbyist (Zimmer) to be part of a commission to study the feasibility of privatizing various state agencies and functions. This is deja vu all over again.Privatizing the DMV was a big fat failure and it wasn't any cheaper. In the end, it flopped. This privatizing crap cuts workers' wages and benefits, leads to a big turnover in personnel and any savings that are made cutting the throats of the workers are redirected to the CEOs and top management. Bush privatized the Iraq war, it didn't save money and lead to massive fraud, graft and corruption.
