14 Senators to go, and none to spare

Seven state senators voted in favor of marriage equality yesterday; 21 are needed to get it through the Senate and to the Assembly. With Jennifer Beck voting no yesterday, that means supporters of same-sex marriage can only lose one more Democrat — though two are on record as opposing same-sex marriage. The odds are not particularly good, unless Beck or Chip Bateman can be convinced to move from the “no” column to the yes column.

  3. [let's try again …]Thanks for the heads-up, Anonymous. I'm a constituent of Turner's, so I just called her office up. The minion said Turner hasn't decided, so I said I'm a straight person in a 20+ years civil marriage who VERY strongly believes in equal marriage rights for all couples, and that civil marriage should NOT have to follow religious rules. My marriage is not sacred.

  4. Van Drew, Sweeney, Rice, Girgenti and Sarlo are all \”no\” votes. That's five Democrats. There are probably others.No Republican, besides Baroni, have come out in favor. Beck, Bateman and Sean Kean (representing Asbury Park) were probably the most likely Republicans to vote \”yes\” but all of them are on the record as being against. Senator Allen is not likely to be in Trenton on Thursday since she is fighting cancer.It is truly unlikely that there ever were 21 Senate votes for S1764 despite Steven Goldstein's claims to the contrary.
