Ode to Lucinda

I never leave umtil the put on the house lights — and tonight it paid off. After a four-song encore of blues and rock that ended with her version of AC/DC's 'KIt's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock'n'Roll),” it appearred we were done. The crowd started filing out — including us.

I knew, however, that the lights remained dark, so I told Annie and Susan to wait — and, sure enough, Lucinda came back out and did a bluesy version of a song by someone she called “one of her favorite songwriters” — one of mine too — Bobbie Gentry. The lovely, scary gothic “Ode to Billie Joe” was a nice treat for the road.
