Runner’s diary, Monday — post race edition

Sunday was the third annual Run with the Vikings 5K, a race I’ve now run the last two years. The morning was chilly, but warmed up significantly and the wind was light — a huge change from a year ago when we were brutalized by heavy winds.

In 2006, I ran a 27:40 (8:55) and finished 114th out of 204 runners.

This year, I shaved almost two and a half minutes off my time, finishing at 25:22 (though as these photos show, I was sucking wind at the end), good for 98th place out of 228 runners. Pace: 8:10.

Just as important to me was that I finished 16th among 33 men in my age group (45-49) — an improvement over last year’s 14th-place finish out of 17 men (40-45).

So, overall, a great morning of running.
